Blog Awards: A Post Mortem
I've been avoiding this post partly because I was sick and partly because I know there's no way I'll remember everyone I met. And that is not entirely because I drank too much! ;-)
I arrived in Dublin and checked in at the Alexander Hotel and met the Irish Blogfather himself, Damien Mulley. Glad I got the chance, because the poor fellow was so busy the rest of the night. Needless to say he pulled off an incredible affair! After a little shopping on Grafton Street I wandered off to the market bar to meet the lovely and talented Sabrina. Her and Ina had organised a wonderful "tea party" for women bloggers. It was a great event in that many of us who had come alone got to meet other bloggers before the actual event. I finally got to put names to faces. Grannymar made a spectacular entrance and is such a lady! Maz is also a real treat, so cute and funny, although her peculiar love for salad has me disturbed! I finally got to meet Devin, who I was probably most excited about meeting. Martha, who kindly sponsored the event with help from her employers was absolutely lovely, I'm just sad I didn't get to chat some more. I finally met the fabulous photographers Redmum and Claire, as well as catch up with the lovely Sinead. Ina was a treat, full of intriguing conversation and just gorgeous to boot! Una and Aoife were great craic altogether and the fact that they'd heard of Phish made my day, not something I've found common in Ireland! Elly was everything she's cracked up to be and more! I got to meet fellow food blogger Jen, who turned out to be a wonderful companion for the night! Sarah was also delightful... now who am I forgetting??? We shared a taxi over to the Alexander with the lovely Gabriela, who has the most beautiful accent!
So onto the awards itself... I didn't win, nor did I expect to, but I was pleasantly surprised that Lorraine from Italian Foodies did! I had Manuel or Martin pegged for the win, but I was very wrong! Congratulations Lorraine!
I met so many wonderful people. Bock the Robber* was not the grumpy old fart I expected, but a rather adorable gentleman indeed! I briefly met Conor and Catherine, who win the award for cutest couple ever! I also briefly touched base with fellow food bloggers Kieran and Val and of course the illustrious Manuel! I also met "the other" Manuel who was a classy gent and literary genius David Maybury who summed up my existence by saying he met the "Humble" housewife and now gets the joke!
The Swearing Lady was an absolute doll and didn't swear once! Sam came all the way from LA and is a true lady! Eolai was also great and he reminded me of Jerry Garcia in an Irish sort of way! Aoife's other half Niall was a dote, great to talk to and very entertaining! Suzy was everything she was cracked up to be - witty, intelligent and great to talk to! Talented photographer Ross Costigan has the coolest hair ever and was also great to chat with, albeit after one too many!
I briefly caught up with Grandad and Granny, who literally had me in stitches! What a couple! Only caught K8 for a second though.
Annie Rhiannon and I spent a few perplexing moments at the bar wondering why the only cocktail they could make was a Bloody Mary. I found myself wishing I had himself's copy of The Playboy Guide to Bartending tucked away in my handbag. Next time!
I suppose the surprise of the night was Twenty Major. Despite his filthy mouth online, he was a gentleman in person. He is exactly what I pictured the fictional character Jack Reacher from the Lee Child novels to look like! Apparently he's tried some of my recipes too! Forget the awards, that made my night! ;-)
I know know know there were so many more but my mind is blanking out. If I didn't mention you I'm sorry! Thanks again to Damien for a wonderful event!
Recipes soon... have lost the cooking and blogging mojo again.
